Artist's Comments

I've been noticing the great amount of Evolution and Christian stamps littering deviant art and wanted to make something a little different.

It's always seemed odd to me why Evolution and Creationism are seen as being mutually exclusive to one another and simply can't co-exist. The stereo-type is that everyone who accepts evolution is an atheist; as if Darwin's Theory of Evolution were synonymous with Atheism.

Just because I consider evolution (and the origin of species) to be a sound theory that I accept does NOT mean I reject the notion that there's a God. It it too much of a stretch to think that God might be patient enough to wait little more than 6,000 years?

As for what I believe personally, I lean towards agnostic. I doubt this will change but I still believe there is a higher being. He sorta stood back and let things roll, occasionally guiding things. Sort of an impersonal guy if you ask me.

I'm not sure if RELIGION and evolution can co-exist, but I certainly think faith and scientific thinking can. Scientific exploration used to be considered an exploration of God's creations, anyhow.

Edit: Aw It's kinda cool but sad when this is my most popular deviation. I wish my actual art spoke as strongly

Wow, I agree completely.

As my pastor stated a couple weeks ago (and showed on a short DVD clip), faith and science can go hand-in-hand. In fact, modern science grew out of faith trying to learn about God's creation. Without believing in God, modern science wouldn't exist because you have to believe that there's a constant, and to do that is to basically accept the idea that there's a higher being. Don't quote me on that exactly, but I'll see if I can't get my mom's transcription of the sermon and a copy of the DVD.

As for my religious stance, I don't know if I can consider myself much of a Christian anymore. I'm not so sure I believe that a religion that grew out of paganism and has the same history as many other religions can be the "correct" religion. I certainly believe there is a higher being, though. That much is evident in my opinion.

im totally gonna use this in my journal because i agree. i believe in God and i also believe that evolution happened. im not a church-goer or anything, but i never really understood why it was "evolution vs creation". they just dont seem like opposites to me. its sad how so many people think one way or the other ._. id say a majority of people ive talked to about this stuff would say either "God exists, but not evolution" or "Evolution happens, so theres no God"

OMG someone else who thinks this!!!! Why is it so damn hard for people to think that faith and science can "intermingle," so to speak?

I need a freaking subscription. Then this would go smack first of all the stamps I'd put in my journal and whatnot.

Definitely agree on this. Why can't creationism and evolutionism co-exist? Personally, I think that God set everything in motion and then just let things progress as evolution and science states. Well said!
